The Aravis Chain

The Aravis Chain of mountains is situated half way between Annecy and Chamonix and offers a great alternative to hiking on the often busier trails around Chamonix. The rock architecture is something to behold with a dozen or so limestone peaks stretched out in a continuous line and finely sculpted by the work of glaciers during the last ice age. These have long since vanished but evidence of them is abundant, not the least the impressive glacial cwms which separate each of the mountains.
